Juvederm Q & A

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a dermal filler based on the natural compound known as hyaluronic acid. Your body produces this compound in your youth, but production wanes as you get older. Hyaluronic acid provides hydration, plumpness, and general youthfulness to tissue.

Juvederm restores hyaluronic acid to areas such as sunken cheeks, thinning lips, and fine lines and wrinkles to create a fuller, younger look.

What are the benefits of Juvederm?

Juvederm is an entire line of fillers that adds volume to lift your cheeks, smooth parentheses lines, and plump the lips. The specific compound, Juvederm Voluma® XC, targets the cheeks, for example, while Juvederm Volbella® XC plumps thin lips.

What is Botox?

Botox contains a purified form of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When injected into key places on your face, it temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkling and lines during expression. So when you have Botox, you look natural, but less creased when smiling or frowning.

Where is Botox most effective?

The FDA has approved Botox for cosmetic use in several areas that tend to show signs of aging, including:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Worry lines between the eyebrows

Botox has been extensively researched and is approved for use in more than 96 countries around the world.

How long do the results of Juvederm and Botox last?

Both cosmetic injectables are temporary solutions to fine lines, wrinkles, and lost volume. Botox injections smooth your skin for three to four months. Juvederm’s effects last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the formula used, the area treated, and your metabolism.

Retreatments of Juvederm and Botox are possible, too. Talk to the team at Jamachi Plastic Surgery about getting on a regular schedule to maintain your results.

Do Juvederm and Botox injections hurt?

Applying cosmetic injectables does require a needle, so you do feel a pinch during the procedure. Most people tolerate Botox injections well, as a fine needle is used, and the procedure is quick. Juvederm formulas include lidocaine, an anesthetic, to ease any discomfort.
